Requiem For A Marriage

Chances are, we all know someone who is divorced -- probably several someones. In 2000, there were over 957,200 finalized divorces in the United States. The U.S. Census Bureau says that 50 percent of all marriages entered into today will end in divorce. That's a lot of broken homes, heartaches and paperwork, not to mention money spent on attorney fees and court costs.

I have to ask how we can stop this trend. Why aren’t people as committed to keeping their relationships together as they were in my grandparent’s day? Couples worked hard at keeping the families together and it was virtually impossible to find a divorced person.

The difference between then and today is that generally only one parent worked while the mother stayed home and looked after the children. There was less pressure on people to have a career, a nice house, the latest car and all the other material possessions to be found in most houses today. To achieve this both parents now work and their children are in full time daycare.

Materialism and huge debt I believe is the reason for so many divorces.

Babies and Grandparents

Babies are such beautiful little people aren't they? They're so innocent and they rely on us to do everything for them. They are so precious and every minute you spend with them just fills you with joy.
Being a grandmother I've been able to experience the feelings all over again and it's even more wonderful the second time around.
I get to spend a lot of time with my grandchildren and before we tire of each other they go home! What a wonderful arrangement!
The time I spend with them is quality time as I'm not trying to juggle other children, housework or work. I'm also a lot more relaxed with them.
When you first see a smile and they recognise you, it's just a fantastic feeling.
I know I'm very lucky to have grandchildren to spoil as I have friends who keep waiting and waiting for grandchildren and it's just not happening.
I hope, if you have grandchildren too, that you get as much pleasure from them as I do.

What Is An Outstanding Family?

Welcome to my blog! I hope you get some invaluable information from my experiences of family life.

Having an outstanding family to me means that you have a family who want to be together and love spending time with each other.
There are so many disfunctional families around today that it's great to see a "normal" family.
I'm not having a go at single parent families as I know a lot of them do a great job to keep their family unit together. I've had experience with this in my own family and the parents have done a fantastic job.
I'm talking about families where the kids are roaming the streets and the parents either don't have a clue, or they don't really care what their kids are doing.
I've come from a Mediterranean background and family is the top priority with all of us. No matter what happens in our lives, we know that the family will be there to support us. It's about caring for each other and taking an interest in whatever is happening in each other's lives.
